Art Journal Caravan Blog...

So, I recently joined Studio Tangie's Art Journal Caravan... and I'm super stoked!! I love art journaling & I find that the pages I make for myself are not only my personal favorites, have the most soul, but are also among the most widely celebrated of all of my pages.

I hope that this journey helps me to keep a few of my new years "resolutions" among them: nurture your creativity, and remember you are not alone. I also hope that it will help to develop my writing and artistic style a little. I have always felt like I'm on the precipice of greatness, and I'm ready to take the leap.

With that in mind, my week 1 itinerary was to choose one word to keep with you for the whole year, and to scrap about it this week. I chose "unleash" and here is my page:

I have also set up a separate blog for this journey. I'm not sure if I'm going to cross post my pages after this or not. Depends on how much of a hassle it is, so if you are at all interested, please follow my new blog:

New CT News!

I am pleased to announce that I have been accepted to Droopette's CT! I wasn't expecting it, but I'm so excited. Her style is so fun & I've spent the afternoon playing with her kits. YAY! I made a couple pages that I can't post until the kit is released, but here is one from her mini-kit "The Sheep for Sleep" @ Digital Crea... Love it!

5 Pickle Discount @ SPD

I haven't been able to post this in the SPD gallery yet because I haven't been able to get onto the site in a few days :( But, I thought I'd post it anyhow...

It's my take on an LO from Teresa. Here's my page:

I have the feeling that this is just the first of many pages to come about my shiny shoes. lol.

DSA Scrap Off: Week 4

Well, I didn't do as well as I'd hoped in week 3, so at this point there's pretty much no chance of winning the scrap off... BUT I'm taking this all as a learning experience, and I had a ton of fun doing it, and in the end that's all that really matters, right?! Anyway, here is my week 4 LO, I tried some new things, and thought outside the box a little - which I'm trying to do more lately. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out:

Mystery Lift @ MLAS

I guess I've been in a challenge mood today. I tried a different kind of challenge over at MLAS... it's half scrap lift, half speed scrap. Very cool. Anyhow, here are the directions & my take on the challenge:

1. Choose three papers and make a "stack" - angling 2 of the papers.
2. Choose one photo and crop it into a circle. Place it near the bottom of your page about center.
3. Mat or frame the photo.
4. Create a cluster along the bottom left of the photo using 5 or more elements.
5. Journal - if you choose - along the left side of the photo.
6. Title your page near the top left of the photo - you can overlap the photo.
7. Date the page however you like.
8. Create your shadows - if you haven't already - you're done!

Mirror of Your Dreams:

Speed Scrap @ MLAS!

This afternoon I did my first speed scrap at My Life and Scrap! I've been wanting to do a speed scrap for ages, and I'm so glad I did. What fun! Here are the directions & my LO:

1. Find 2 photos and crop them into circles- add them to either side of your page in a vertical direction.
2. Find 2 papers- make one smaller and layer it onto your background piece anyway that you would like.
3. Find 2 curly ribbons and add them behind your photos.
4. Find sticks/ twigs or leaves or anything straight and add them behind your photos.
5. Find flowers atleast 4 and add them to your page behind and on the sides of your photos.
6. Add something with spikes or texture- leaves, pinecones, pineneedles etc
7. Add some gems or glitter/bling under your lower picture. Then finish with your shadows. It will be upto you to add a title if you want and any journaling/ dates. Not a requirement this time around.

DSA Scrap Off: Weeks 2 & 3

Hmm, looks like I never posted my week 2 page, so here goes nothing. So far I am in a 5-way tie for 3rd place, but I'm not feeling terribly confident about this last page, so we'll just have to see how the scores pan out on Monday. Either way, it's been a lot of fun. I'd totally do it again :)

Through His Eyes

Journaling reads:
A few years ago I was looking through
an old photo album with a friend.
As we flipped through pages of pictures
of me as a child she asked, “What, did someone
follow you around with a camera all your life?”
“Yeah, pretty much,” I responded. “My grandfather.”
As long as I can remember, he carried his
camera everywhere he went, snapping pictures
along the way. He took this picture of me
when I was 17, I am sitting on a swing that
he built for me in the backyard of my childhood home.
I never saw it or knew he kept it until we had to
settle his estate after he died. He left no will,
but I was given his camera as a keepsake.
When I look through the lens I feel like
I can see the world through his eyes
and it comforts me.

Coffee & Me

After scrapping my little heart out for my CTs & for DSA, you'd think I'd be all scrapped out... but yesterday I was actually able to take some time to scrap for myself. Everything just fell right into place. I think it's one of my favorite pages so far, probably because it's just SO ME! lol. I love this kit so much I'm considering re-doing my blog again :p

Journaling reads: Of all of my vices, coffee may be my favorite.
Not only is my caffeine consumption socially acceptable, it is also not-so-subtly encouraged by the 15 coffee shops within a 10 mile radius of my house...
